Angkor Archaeological Park, the most attractive tourism landscape in the Kingdom, received 669,619 foreign tourists in the first eight months of this year, up 2.72 percent, a report from the Angkor Enterprise overseeing the Angkor Entrance Pass Sales showed on Monday.
The entrance pass sales generated revenues of $31 million, a year-on-year increase of 2.42 percent, read the report.
The increase in foreign visitors to the Angkor Archaeological Park reflects a steady recovery of the tourism sector, said Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents.
Speaking with Khmer Times, Sivlin said, “The government, along with the Ministry of Tourism, and relevant parties in the private sector, have closely worked to promote tourism, creating new products, and facilitating tours to foreign tourists.”
Air connectivity, direct flights and implementation of systems such as automatic ticket machines are also factors enhancing tourists’ convenience to visit Siem Reap province and Cambodia, she added.
In August alone, the park received 50,848 foreign tourists with revenue from entrance pass sales of $2.42 million.
The entrance fee for a one-day visit to the park is $37, a three-day visit costs $62 and a week-long visit $72.
Situated in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-square-km Angkor Archaeological Park is home to 91 ancient temples, which were built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.
The Park, included on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1992, is the most popular tourist spot in the Southeast Asian country.
TripAdvisor, a website that promotes travel destinations worldwide, has named Angkor Wat in Cambodia as the number one iconic landmark in Asia. This move reflected its status as the most iconic and sought-after tourist attraction in the region.
This great temple is also considered the largest religious site in the world and has attracted a steady stream of international tourists from around the world to visit.
In a text posted on his official social media platform last Saturday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Angkor Wat, which has been ranked as Asia’s most attractive tourist destination by TripAdvisor.
