CySEC spotlights decade of social responsibility initiatives

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) on Tuesday marked ten years of social responsibility efforts, reinforcing its commitment to community support and sustainable development.

According to an announcement, the commission has implemented a number of targeted initiatives over the past decade, “aimed at strengthening social cohesion and assisting vulnerable groups”.

We do not view corporate social responsibility as a mere series of charitable actions but as an integral part of our culture,” said Elena Karkoti, a senior officer at CySEC and coordinator of its social responsibility programme.

The commission’s social responsibility initiatives, Karkoti explained, “align with its core values of transparency, accountability, and ethical corporate governance”.

She added that these efforts have also “fostered a workplace environment that encourages collaboration, empathy, and staff engagement in social causes”.

Moreover, Karkoti explained that by participating in these initiatives, “CySEC employees demonstrate their role as active citizens who invest in a better society”.

She further noted that CySEC celebrated its decade-long contribution with the publication of a commemorative report in 2024. The report highlighted the impact of its initiatives.

Throughout the year, she said, the commission prioritised supporting vulnerable families through various initiatives.

These include the ‘Adopt a Family for Easter’ campaign, which provided food and gifts to families in need, and the ‘All Children with School Supplies’ drive, which funded school materials and financial aid for underprivileged students.

Supporting vulnerable families has remained a priority throughout the year,” Karkoti said.

Health and wellbeing were also a key focus, with CySEC staff participating in Cyprus Telethon’s ‘Martaki 2024’ initiative, raising funds for the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.

In addition, the commission organised two blood donation drives and took part in the ‘Walk for Autism’ initiative, raising awareness and financial support for autism-related services.

Furthering its commitment to inclusivity, CySEC hosted students from Nicosia’s Special School, offering an interactive experience aimed at fostering understanding and integration.

A charity book fair was also organised, with proceeds benefiting the Alkinoos Artemiou Foundation, which supports children with oncological and haematological conditions.

Furthermore, Karkoti mentioned that CySEC employees continued their charitable efforts through their annual Christmas Bazaar, raising funds for families in need.

She added that “the season’s spirit was further embraced with a visit from students of the Nicosia Special School, who sang traditional carols and received financial support from CySEC staff”.

“Looking back at ten years of social responsibility, we feel proud that our collective efforts have delivered meaningful results,” Karkoti said.
