Scholarships vital for human capital development, says First Lady

Pich Chanmony, chairwoman of the Hun Sen and Bun Rany Foundation’s Scholarship Committee for Underprivileged Students, said that the scholarships have played a vital role in the development of Cambodia’s human capital.

Chanmony made the remarks on Friday at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre during a meeting with nearly 2,000 recipients of the Hun Sen and Bun Rany scholarships for the 2024–2025 school year.

Chanmony, who is also the First Lady of Cambodia, conveyed warm greetings from Senate president Hun Sen and Bun Rany to the scholarship beneficiaries during the event.

She noted that the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I introduced by Government under the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly and led by Mr Hun Manet, focusses on job creation, social equity, efficiency, and sustainability.

The goal of this strategy is to transform Cambodia into a high-income country by 2050, with a strong emphasis on developing human capital.

She added that high-quality, healthy human resources are a national asset essential for promoting innovation, preserving cultural values, and driving economic prosperity.

She noted that resilient socioeconomic development and long-term economic stability depend on these factors.

The Scholarship Committee will continue to offer students opportunities for higher education, both domestically and abroad, in support of the government’s development objectives. These initiatives align with the government’s broader vision for Cambodia in 2050.

Chanmony also recognised the crucial role that businesses, banks, associations, NGOs, philanthropists, and educational institutions play in expanding scholarship opportunities. Their contributions have helped create a knowledgeable, ethical, and well-rounded workforce that will drive the nation’s progress.

She expressed her appreciation to all those involved for their dedication, expertise, and commitment to this noble cause, which benefits both the country and its people.

Chanmony encouraged the students to study diligently and gain knowledge for their personal growth.

She added that the three scholarship benefactors—Mr Hun Sen, Bun Rany, and Mr Hun Manet—expect nothing in return. The focus should be on studying hard, acquiring knowledge, and enhancing one’s abilities for a better future.
