The remarks were made by His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, in a recent royal message to his compatriots.
This year’s theme – Youth for National Culture – highlights the central role of youth as a driving force in safeguarding, protecting, promoting and developing the culture, customs, traditions, which are the identity and soul of the nation, including the diverse culture of indigenous communities, to ensure their permanence, the monarch added.
The National Culture Day is aimed to commemorate the physical, mental, intellectual and life-long contributions of all generations of Cambodian ancestors to create, preserve and protect the rich and priceless cultural heritage that has been passed down to future generations, said His Majesty the King.
At the same time, he continued, the National Culture Day is also a valuable opportunity to inspire a sense of love for the arts, culture, customs, traditions, and other ancestral heritage that are the soul and national identity of all Cambodian citizens.
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has recently instructed relevant government ministries and agencies as well as other stakeholders to take initiative in celebrating the 27th National Culture Day from Mar. 3 until the Khmer New Year celebration that will fall this year on April 14-16.
