Cambodia’s aviation sector registered an increase in flight movements early this year as new flight routes were announced by major international airlines connecting Cambodia to international destinations.
According to official figures, there were 1,324 flight movements per week in early 2025, a 5 percent increase in flight movements compared to the same period last year.
Phnom Penh International Airport recorded 942 flight movements per week, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport 346 flight movements, and Sihanoukville International Airport 36 flight movements, said the report.
Currently, Cambodia has 31 national and international airlines flying into and out of the country to 34 cities in 12 countries.
Writing on his official social media on Tuesday, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that under the collaboration and promotion of the country’s open sky policy to welcome international businessmen and visitors to Cambodia more actively and in line with the nation’s long-term vision, the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation has continued to expand and enhance direct flights to Cambodia.
Mr Hun Manet further wrote, “Cambodia is expected to gain a number of new airlines, such as India’s Indigo Airlines, Etihad Airways from the United Arab Emirates, and Turkish Airlines from Turkey, as well as the expansion of new flights by Emirates Airlines from the United Arab Emirates to Siem Reap.”
The country’s Air transport is an important strategic production factor in the socio-economic development process by facilitating travel, transporting goods in short periods of time and with high safety, promoting trade and tourism activities, promoting social relations, and contributing to increasing national budget revenues, he said.
Cambodia’s aviation sector experienced a remarkable surge in 2024 with three international airports collectively handling a record high of 6.2 million passengers, SSCA’s report showed.

Talking to Khmer Times, Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, attributed the air traffic growth to cooperation between the government and private sector in creating tourism products and services, enhancing airport infrastructure, and air connectivity. “Enhancing airport facilities and increasing air flight connections have contributed to facilitating tourists’ movements to visit the country.”
