US Ambassador to Cyprus Julie Davis this week highlighted the crucial role of American investments in Cyprus’ economic development.
Speaking at an event at Neapolis University Paphos titled “USA – Cyprus: Strengthening Trade and Economic Ties,” Davis highlighted opportunities in tourism, real estate, the higher education sector, sustainable energy, and the attraction of international business hubs.
According to a statement from the university, the ambassador spoke warmly about the long-standing and successful relationship between the Cypriot business community and major US-affiliated enterprises.
The event, which took place on Thursday evening, aimed at enhancing commercial and economic relations between Cyprus and the United States.
It featured opening remarks from George Leptos, president of the University Council, and professor Pantelis Sklias, rector of Neapolis University.
Davis was joined by key figures in Cyprus’ investment sector, including Marios Tannousis, chief executive officer of Invest Cyprus, Ioannis Georgoulas, board member of the US Chamber of Commerce Cyprus and chair of the Economic Development & Fintech Committee, and Andreas Panayi, co-founder of Kinisis Ventures Ltd. & KV Fund Investment Advisory Committee.
The university mentioned that the speakers examined the prospects and challenges for start-up enterprises, stressing the importance of institutional and financial support.
They also discussed the role of research centres of excellence in fostering economic growth and Cyprus’ international outreach.
The event concluded with an open discussion and audience questions, reflecting strong interest in strengthening commercial and economic ties between Cyprus and the US.
Ambassador Davis expressed her appreciation for the “warm reception she always receives in Paphos and the discussions that took place”.
Meanwhile, the rector of Neapolis University “reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration on key economic development issues”.
