Larnaca unveils “Welcome Back” tourism plan to capitalise on growing visitor numbers

Larnaca’s Tourism Board (ETAP) has announced an ambitious plan to enhance the region’s tourism infrastructure for 2025, building on its success as Cyprus’s third most popular destination despite having significantly fewer accommodation options than competing regions.

With just 5,817 beds compared to Limassol’s 9,874, Paphos’s 27,441, and Famagusta district’s 37,809, Larnaca has seen tourist arrivals increase substantially throughout the year, according to official figures.

“It is very encouraging that arrivals show an upward trend, coupled with the continued construction of new hotel units, mainly in the city and tourist area,” Nana Asmeni, director of ETAP Larnaca, told Phileleftheros.

The tourism board’s 2025 action plan, supported by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, includes numerous initiatives across the Larnaca region, with a new “Welcome Back” campaign serving as the centrepiece of promotional efforts.

“Our activities are implemented cumulatively, year after year, to ensure continuity in the actions necessary to achieve our goals,” Asmeni said, highlighting that targeted marketing in priority markets will be complemented by enhanced social media promotion through international influencers.

Key developments include a new platform launching next month that will consolidate experiential activities and allow tourists to book directly through their hotels. Offerings will include sea activities, cultural walks, and gastronomic tours with wine tastings.

The plan also encompasses the digitalisation of tourism sites—with all 15 museums in the city and province already digitalised—and infrastructure improvements including cycling routes, beach enhancement with palm trees, strengthening the identity of nine “bee villages,” and improving accessibility at points of interest.

According to Asmeni, nearly 60 percent of visitors to Larnaca return for subsequent holidays, indicating strong customer satisfaction with the destination.

ETAP Larnaca is additionally managing European programmes focused on improving accessibility, promoting circular economy practices, and enhancing employment in the hotel and tourism industry.
