Cambodia, China hold talks on investment cooperation, development of SEZs

The Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board (CIB) Suon Sophal, today led a working group to meet and discuss with Li Yongjun, Director-General of the General Department of Economic Cooperation and Overseas Investment of the Ministry of Commerce of China, with the aim of exchanging views on investment cooperation and the development of the Cambodia-China Special Economic Zone.

Sophal thanked the friendly party for taking the time to personally visit the Kingdom of Cambodia to discuss cooperation to strengthen and promote the flow of Chinese investment to Cambodia in the Preah Sihanouk province Special Economic Zone and two-way Cambodia-China investment.

The Deputy Secretary General of CIB said that with the support of friendly parties, the Preah Sihanouk Special Economic Zone has become a potential investment attraction centre and has increased trade volume and promoted investment flows into Cambodia by absorbing investment projects and creating maximum jobs.

In addition, the Preah Sihanouk Special Economic Zone has contributed to strengthening cooperation between the two sides through the Belt and Road Initiative by Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.

At the same time, the two sides had fruitful discussions on promoting investment cooperation through the working mechanism that signed the Memorandum of Understanding, aiming to implement bilateral investment cooperation projects in the green and digital economy sectors, aiming to make Cambodia’s industrial infrastructure attractive to investments that provides high added value to socio-economic development, and improving high-quality bilateral economic and trade relations.
