Cyprus seeks stronger tourism ties with Egypt and Qatar

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis has held consecutive meetings with the ambassadors of Egypt and Qatar in Cyprus to discuss strengthening tourism cooperation between the countries.

According to a statement released on Friday, Koumis met with Egyptian Ambassador Mohamed Shawky Zaazou, with discussions covering Cyprus-Egypt air connectivity, cruise tourism, and the role of travel agents and tour operators in both countries.

The announcement noted that “Koumis highlighted the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors, particularly tourism”.

In addition, “he expressed his intention to establish a productive dialogue between the two nations to harness opportunities and capitalise on shared strengths”.

On his part, Zaazou reaffirmed the “longstanding ties between Egypt and Cyprus“, citing strong connections in trade, economy, and culture.

Moreover, he conveyed Egypt’s “willingness to further enhance relations and cooperation in tourism, acknowledging its growing importance for both countries”.

Both Koumis and Zaazou expressed their commitment to maintaining open communication and working towards strengthening tourism links.

In a separate meeting with Qatari Ambassador Yousef Sultan Laram, Koumis focused on “the significance of Qatar’s tourism market for Cyprus” and expressed the deputy ministry’s “commitment to further expanding cooperation”.

The minister also “underscored the importance of strengthening ties and increasing collaboration in the tourism sector”.

Laram outlined Qatar’s objectives in attracting more tourists and highlighted the country’s efforts to enhance its flight network.

He also said that Qatar’s aim is to “improve air connectivity between the two nations and increase the volume of visitors in the future”.

During the meeting, both officials “engaged in a productive discussion on various tourism-related issues and explored ways to boost tourism flows“.

The announcement concluded by saying that the two officials “agreed to continue and expand their dialogue to further develop cooperation in the sector”.
