Prime Minister Hun Manet yesterday urged
American companies to step up their investments in Cambodia and support the socio-economic progress of the country by widening the horizon of cooperation.
Mr Hun Manet was talking to a delegation of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Cambodia led by its President Devin Barta who paid a courtesy call on him at the Peace Palace.
According to a press release, the Prime Minister also highlighted the attractiveness of the Investment Law of the Kingdom and the incentive policy of the Royal Government for investors and business people.
He also informed the President of AmCham about the investment opportunities in the High-Tech Industrial Park, which the Royal Government is developing for the digital sector.
During the meeting, Devin expressed his deep gratitude to the Prime Minister for allowing him and his delegation to meet and discuss various issues. The AmCham President also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for facilitating a good investment environment for US businesses in the Kingdom.
He highly appreciated the openness and cooperation of various ministries and institutions in Cambodia. Devin also informed the Prime Minister about the activities of AmCham Cambodia, including the promotion of investment and trade relations between the Kingdom and the US.
The AmCham President further expressed the willingness to continue strengthening and expanding cooperation on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Cambodia, real estate investments and support for owners of small enterprises through training, skills development and financing.
In response, the Prime Minister praised the good cooperation between the AmCham and the Royal Government and thanked the American companies for believing and investing in the Kingdom and contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
The Prime Minister also encouraged AmCham to further strengthen and expand cooperation with various ministries and institutions in Cambodia and emphasized the commitment of the Royal Government to ensuring a good investment environment for businesses in Cambodia by strengthening the resilience of the economic and financial systems.
Later talking to Khmer Times, Devin said AmCham Cambodia had a very productive meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet, during which they expressed their appreciation for the focus of the Royal Government on private sector engagement.
“During our interaction, we also conveyed to the Prime Minister our ongoing commitment to promoting Cambodia as a favourable destination for business endeavours. The discussions covered several topics including technology, Sihanoukville’s potential for industrial, real-estate and tourism investment, law and the commercial court and women’s issues in business, besides helping to bring in large US tech companies and even the possibility of the establishment of a US tech-based industrial park or zone,” he said.
Devin added that the meeting provided a structured forum to advocate for AmCham members and their interests.
