Trade between two neighbouring nations Cambodia and Thailand reached $1,148 million between January and March, a year-on-year increase of 2.2 percent, as the two leaders are about to agree on enhancing further trade and investment cooperation during the Thai Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Cambodia.
From January, Cambodia exported $255 million worth of products to Thailand, which decreased by 10 percent from $285 million recorded in the same period of last year, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom spent some $893 million on importing products from Thailand, up 6.7 percent from $837 million, read the report.
Cambodia’s main exports to Thailand include textiles, agricultural products, gems, raw materials and semi-finished products.
Imports from Thailand include fish, meat, vegetables, automobiles, organic fertilizers, foodstuffs, and construction materials.
Cambodia and Thailand have set their ambitious target of $15 billion bilateral trade by 2025.
Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand, will pay an official visit to Cambodia on April 23-24 at the invitation of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
According to a press release from the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, she was granted a Royal Audience by His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, at the Royal Palace.
The Thai Premier is also scheduled to pay separate courtesy calls on Senate President Hun Sen, and President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary, the source pointed out.
Prime Minister Hun Manet and his Thai counterpart will engage in a bilateral meeting aimed at charting a course of action for further deepening and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand, it stressed.
Both leaders will witness the signing of a number of documents on bilateral cooperation in various areas.
“The visit taking place as the two Kingdoms are commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations will further strengthen the bonds of traditional friendship between the two peoples,” said the release.
Thailand is Cambodia’s second-largest trade partner in ASEAN, with trade turnover at $2,488 million in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 15.5 percent from $3,712 million recorded in 2023, according to the report.
