Cyprus_iT celebrates 8 years of supporting the local tech landscape
Cyprus_iT, a prominent digital ecosystem, marked its 8th anniversary this month, according to an announcement by its founder Oleg Reshetnikov.
Created in Cyprus, the platform has played a crucial role in transforming the island into a thriving hub for IT professionals, expats, and digital entrepreneurs.
The ecosystem, which remains entirely informal and volunteer-based, has fostered significant growth in both the business and social landscapes of Cyprus.
Over the years, Cyprus_iT has helped hundreds of IT professionals make Cyprus their home, facilitated the relocation of numerous companies, and contributed to the creation of thousands of jobs. This, in turn, has positively impacted Cyprus’ GDP.
In light of this, an anniversary celebration of the Cyprus_iT ecosystem will take place on Wednesday, April 30, at 7:00 PM at Malindi Beach Bar & Restaurant in Limassol.
Achievements and milestones
In the past eight years, Cyprus_iT has achieved several notable milestones. It has organised more than 390 offline meetings, attracting over 35,500 visitors, with 8,300 unique guests and 2,900 participating companies.
The online ecosystem now boasts over 137,000 members and subscribers, cementing its status as one of the largest digital communities globally, and possibly the largest in the European Union.
Furthermore, Cyprus_iT has earned international recognition, being covered by prominent media outlets such as Der Spiegel (Germany), El Pais (Spain), RFI (France), The Washington Post (USA), and Forbes.
Locally, it has also been featured in the Cyprus Mail.
This global attention highlights the significant role the ecosystem plays in attracting digital talent and investment to Cyprus.
Supporting IT professionals and businesses
Reshetnikov, the founder of Cyprus_iT, has been instrumental in the relocation of companies and specialists to Cyprus.
He notes that the ecosystem has led to the establishment of numerous companies and has attracted hundreds of qualified specialists who not only became taxpayers but also contributed to the growth of the Cypriot economy.
Many of these specialists relocated with their families, enriching the island’s social and economic environment.
Reshetnikov also created an IT HR platform in Cyprus, which has since grown significantly.
This resource provides a platform for job searching and recruitment, where hundreds of vacancies and resumes are published each month.
The platform has helped many individuals find work in Cyprus, while companies have successfully filled key positions, ensuring business growth and sustainability.
A hub for social integration
The Cyprus_iT ecosystem also serves as a vital tool for the social integration of IT specialists and their families.
The platform’s events and online resources help newcomers adapt to life in Cyprus, offering valuable information on the job market, immigration procedures, and local living conditions.
This ease of adaptation has made Cyprus an attractive destination for IT professionals and their families.
In addition to fostering business relationships, Cyprus_iT has also helped strengthen Cyprus’ position as a competitive IT hub in Europe.
It offers an important connection for specialists and companies to thrive in the region.
Supporting the startup community
Beyond the IT sector, Cyprus_iT has actively contributed to the development of Cyprus’ startup ecosystem.
Reshetnikov launched the CY Venture project, which connects startups with investors, mentors, and business partners.
The platform has hosted over 200 projects, generating more than 400 investor inquiries and facilitating 120 introductions, leading to investments in over 10 startups.
Reshetnikov’s involvement with ICLUB Cyprus, a venture club co-founded by Victoria Tigipko and TA Ventures, further supports the growth of local startups by providing access to capital and resources.
His contributions were recognised in 2020 when his article about Cyprus’ venture potential received commendation from the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy.
Through his venture initiatives, Reshetnikov has not only helped local startups but also enhanced Cyprus’ reputation as an emerging hub for innovation and investment.
