Cyprus Forum to tackle EU–UK ties, global challenges

The Cyprus Forum will return to London on May 22, according to an announcement released on Friday.

The event will bring together diplomats, academics, journalists and civil society leaders for a full day of discussion at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus to the UK.

Now in its second year, the event is organised by Oxygen for Democracy in collaboration with the High Commission, and aims to build on last year’s success by deepening policy dialogue on regional and international challenges.

This year’s focus centres on geopolitics, diaspora engagement, and the evolving relationship between the EU and the UK.

According to the announcement, opening remarks will be delivered by Nicolas Kyriakides, executive president of Cyprus Forum, followed by keynote addresses from Irene Piki, deputy minister to the President of Cyprus, and Victoria Billing, director for Europe at the UK’s foreign, commonwealth and development office.

The agenda includes a series of high-level panels.

One will explore ‘Regional Visions from Europe to Asia in a Fragmenting World Order’, bringing together ambassadors from Cyprus, Egypt and Albania, alongside experts from Lebanon and King’s College London.

Another discussion titled ‘Cyprus: Prospects for the Future Through the Eyes of the Diaspora’ will feature leading voices from NEPOMAK, SeeD, Fortune Media and the LSE Hellenic Observatory, reflecting on the diaspora’s role in shaping Cyprus’ future.

Meanwhile, a third panel on ‘Recalibrating EU–UK Relations in a Shifting World’ will hear from senior representatives of the EU, Bloomberg and the European Leadership Network.

It was also mentioned that this year’s programme has been developed in partnership with the Hellenic Observatory at LSE, Southeast European Studies at Oxford, the National Federation of Cypriots, and Cypriots in the City, a network of supporters key to curating the day’s content and fostering cross-border collaboration.
