The president of the Employers’ Group Stefano Mallia and the head of the Employers’ Group at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) of the European Union Fulvio Bianconi visited the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) on Tuesday.
According to an official statement fromt the chamber, they held a meeting with Keve president Stavros Stavrou and secretary general Philokypros Rousounides.
During the meeting, issues of common interest concerning both organisations were discussed, with particular emphasis on the economic challenges facing both Cyprus and the European Union.
One of the points highlighted, the statement mentioned, was that strengthening competitiveness is the only viable path to promoting entrepreneurship and driving economic growth.
The advancement of policies such as the Competitiveness Compass, adopted by the European Commission, was described as a step in the right direction.
The discussions also touched on matters relating to the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2026 and the priorities of the business community.
The Employers’ Group of the EESC made special reference to its new initiative aimed at using artificial intelligence to reduce the bureaucratic procedures currently burdening European businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.
The announcement noted that this initiative is “expected to lead to a better regulatory environment and more efficient business operations”.
Moreover, the Keve president said that “the chamber fully supports this effort”.
He added that “Keve will mobilise within the European chambers in which it participates to promote it”.
