IndiGo, India’s largest carrier generating about $10 billion in annual revenue, has unveiled plans to launch direct flights to 10 new international destinations starting July 2025, including Siem Reap, alongside European and Central Asian cities, as part of a significant expansion of its global network.
In a media briefing in India on Friday, Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, said that the upcoming international expansion will include new routes to Amsterdam (Netherlands), Manchester (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Siem Reap (Cambodia), and four destinations in Central Asia.
During his remarks, Elbers highlighted the rapid growth of IndiGo’s international presence, stating, “This move will take the carrier’s global network from 40 to 50 overseas routes in just one year.
There is a tremendous opportunity in Indian aviation, where surging demand is being matched by rapid infrastructure growth.”
He further revealed that IndiGo will commence long-haul operations with direct flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam using leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft starting in July.
The IndiGo CEO further said, “For this year, the airline is targeting over 100 new routes, connecting 40 international destinations and 20 Indian cities as part of its aggressive expansion strategy.
“India is in a hurry—and so is IndiGo,” he said.
Later this year, IndiGo aims to further expand its long-haul network to include destinations such as London, Copenhagen, Athens, Hanoi, and additional Southeast Asian cities, he added.

According to Indian media reports, the airline also plans to introduce business class offerings on select international routes, including Singapore, Phuket, and Dubai, thereby intensifying competition with Air India, the flag carrier and Star Alliance member based in Delhi.
IndiGo also plans to expand its long-haul network later this year with new destinations including London, Copenhagen, Athens, and Southeast Asian countries and cities like Hanoi and Cambodia, the statement added.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA), welcomed the announcement.
Regarding the planned Kolkata-to-Siem Reap route, she said, “IndiGo might be addressing issues over operations management, which led to the delay until July this year.”
The CATA President emphasised the potential for increased tourism, saying “Indian and Chinese tourists are major contributors to Cambodia’s tourism market, yet we attract only a small portion from these countries”.

“We congratulate IndiGo for this initiative and hope it will bring more international tourists to Cambodia,” she concluded.
According to The Economic Times, the airline currently serves over 90 domestic and 40 international destinations, operating more than 2,300 daily flights with a fleet of over 430 aircraft.
The airline welcomes over one million customers every three days and prides itself on its inclusive workforce, including the highest number of female pilots in India, a statement by the company said.
The expansion underscores IndiGo’s commitment to capitalising on India’s growing aviation market while enhancing connectivity to key global destinations, positioning the airline as a formidable player in the international aviation landscape.
