Cambodia’s new-vehicle market experienced significant growth in the first quarter of 2025, according to an auto distributor’s report filed with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) on Friday.
“In the automobile sector, internal data suggests the overall market is on the rise by 48 percent during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the similar quarter in 2024,” Kevin Whitcraft, chairman of RMA (Cambodia) Plc., said in the report.
This represented 19,000 units purchased during the January-March period this year, compared to roughly 12,830 units during the same period last year.
Many world-class car brands, including Ford, Land Rover, Changan, Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, GAC, BYD, Hongqi and Tesla, are available in the Southeast Asian country.
Cambodia has also seen a significant rise in electric vehicles (EVs) in recent years.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the kingdom registered a total of 2,253 electric vehicles (EVs) in 2024, representing a 620 per cent increase from the 313 units registered in the previous year.
The three most popular electric vehicle (EV) brands in the country are BYD, Toyota, and Tesla, the report stated. Xinhua
