Mom Kunthea / KSynopsis: Key tourism development measures are proposed to implement the government’s strategic plan to increase the number of tourists.
The Siem Reap-Angkor Tourism Management and Development Commission (SRATMDC) Wednesday asked all relevant institutions to continue to promote the development of Siem Reap’s tourism destinations to make them more attractive to increase the number of tourists.
Senior Minister Thong Khon, Chairman of the Siem Reap-Angkor Tourism Management and Development Commission (SRATMDC), proposed key tourism development measures for Siem Reap during a meeting held at the Council of Ministers.
The meeting aimed to implement the government’s strategic plan for Siem Reap tourism in 2025.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Tourism (MoT) Huot Hak, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Ngouv Sengkak, and officials from various ministries, institutions, and departments also attended, according to the Siem Reap Provincial Information Department.
On the occasion, Khon emphasised the importance of strengthening monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of the 2025 tourism development plan. The agenda also covered the project concept to enhance tourism in the Kampong Phluk natural community and discussed the current progress and future direction of tourism in Phnom Kulen, Chong Khneas, and Siem Reap City.
“I would like to request each target management unit, especially the Angkor Foundation, to increase efforts and align their work with national plans,” he added.
Regarding the Phnom Kulen area, Khon requested continued collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and the MoT to focus on conservation, environmental protection, and the development of sustainable tourism services.hmer Times
According to Khon, Siem Reap province welcomed approximately 520,000 international tourists in the first five months of 2025, marking an 11.71 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. He projected that Siem Reap could receive between 1.2 and 1.3 million international tourists by end of 2025.
He also highlighted Prime Minister Hun Manet’s commitment to developing the tourism sector in the country.
