Synopsis: Mr Hun Manet asks the stakeholders to diversify export items such as travel products, electronics, solar panels, bicycles among others.
Prime Minister Hun Manet Friday emphasised the government’s commitment to making access to a broader market for products through implementing existing free trade agreements (FTAs) and seeking new trade deals to open more markets for Cambodian goods.
He made these remarks while presiding over a solidarity dinner with representatives of small and medium enterprises and handicrafts on the occasion of the 2nd National Day of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, held last Friday at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh.
“Cambodia is implementing free trade agreements and trying its best to negotiate new ones to expand markets for Cambodian products,” he said, adding, “This proactive stance is seen as crucial for the Kingdom’s economic diversification and sustained growth.”
Mr Hun Manet also asked ministries and institutions, as well as the private sector, to diversify export items in addition to garments and rice, such as travel products, electronics, solar panels, bicycles and other agricultural products such as rubber, cashew nuts and mangoes.
Vice-President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce Lim Heng attributed the remarkable growth to the new investment law and free trade pacts.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Heng said, “Free Trade Agreements with China and Korea and the mega trade pact RCEP have been the catalysts in attracting more investors to Cambodia. These FTAs have created a huge market for made-in-Cambodia products.”
