Government launches €20,000 electric vehicle grants with 260 subsidies available

The government will reopen its electric vehicle promotion scheme application portal on 8 July at 9am, the Transport Ministry announced, offering grants ranging from €7,500 to €20,000 across five categories.

Applications must be submitted online through the Road Transport Department website until 2 September at midnight, or until grants in each category are exhausted, whichever occurs first.

The scheme provides €7,500 grants for scrapping and replacing vehicles with new zero-emission models up to 50g/km CO2 (ceiling cost €80,000), with 40 grants available. New zero-emission vehicle purchases qualify for €9,000 grants (ceiling cost €80,000) with 150 grants available.

Disabled drivers can access €20,000 grants for zero-emission vehicles (ceiling cost €80,000), with 10 grants available. Multi-child families receive the same €20,000 grant amount with identical terms and availability.

Used zero-emission vehicle purchases qualify for €9,000 grants (ceiling cost €35,000), with 50 grants available.

The Road Transport Department reserves the right to terminate the application process for any grant category before the deadline, with at least seven days’ advance notice through official announcement.

Implementation deadline shortened

The ministry clarified that approval implementation must be completed by 31 October 2025, replacing the previous 31 December 2025 deadline specified in the scheme guidelines.

Vehicles ordered before the application date remain eligible for grants. However, vehicles already registered with the Motor Vehicle Inspector before the application submission date are not eligible.

The scheme forms part of Cyprus’s broader strategy to promote electric vehicle adoption across the island. The Transport Ministry has not disclosed the total number of grants available for the current application round.

Application requirements maintained

The reopening follows the ministry’s standard procedure for managing electric vehicle incentive programmes. Successful applicants must complete implementation of their approved grants within the specified timeframe to maintain eligibility.
