US Embassy Phnom Penh hosts 249th US Independence Day celebration (VIDEO)

The US Embassy hosted a celebration for the 249th Independence Day of the United States of America, at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra yesterday.

The event was presided over by Sun Chanthol, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Bridgette Walker, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, ai.

In her remarks, Walker highlighted American excellence in innovation and opportunity. “The idea and spirit of America have not only shaped my country’s development, but these are also the basis upon which we interact with the rest of the world.

We seek partnerships that provide equal chances and opportunities with transparency and fairness. To achieve these goals, you will find Americans working in every sector everywhere to create relationships and deepen partnerships,” she said.

Deputy Prime Minister Chanthol was the Guest of Honour, representing the Government at the event.

According to a press release from the US Embassy in Phnom Penh, the celebration also marked the 75th anniversary of US-Cambodia diplomatic ties, which began in 1950. Officials, diplomats, partners, and friends of the embassy participated in a historic photo exhibit recounting the development of bilateral relations and enjoyed food and drinks generously provided by sponsors.

A brass ensemble from the US Air Force Band of the Pacific entertained guests with musical hits from both countries, reflecting decades of the relationship. “Pacific Brass,” along with the Royal Cambodian Army Honour Guard and Trumpet Unit, delighted attendees with a joint performance, celebrating the enduring friendship between the American and Cambodian people.
