Cars top Cambodian imports from Britain

Synopsis: Trade between the Kingdom and UK exceeded $300 million in the first four months of 2025, up nine percent compared to the same period last year.

At a total import cost of $10.3 million, cars topped Cambodian imports from Britain last year, according to the latest statistics released by the British Department for Business and Trade on bilateral trade between the two countries.

The major British automobile brands include Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover, Lotus, McLaren, and Rolls-Royce. These brands represent a variety of segments, from ultra-luxury to sports cars, and are renowned for their heritage, performance, and craftsmanship.

Among other imports, cars were followed by animal feed ($7.1 million), textile fabrics ($4.29 million), clothing ($3.2 million) and miscellaneous food items ($2.14 million).

“In the four quarters to the end of Q4 2024, total UK exports to Cambodia amounted to £61 million ($81.71 million), which is a decrease of 37.8 percent or £37 million ($49.56 million) in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q4 2023,” the report said.

Of all British exports to Cambodia, including the four quarters of 2024, $42.87 million (52.5 percent) were goods and $38.85 million (47.5 percent) were services.

During the same period, British exports of goods to Cambodia decreased by 52.2 percent or $46.89 million in current prices, compared to 2023.

On the flip side, total UK imports from Cambodia stood at $1.07 billion, which is an increase of 12.2 percent or $116.5 million in current prices, compared to the previous year.

The statistics revealed that the UK reported a total trade deficit of $988 million with Cambodia, compared to a trade deficit of $822.5 million in 2023.

“Last year, the UK had a trade in goods deficit of over $1 billion with Cambodia, compared to a trade in goods deficit of $830.54 million in the previous year.”

Meanwhile, the UK reported a trade in services surplus of $12.06 million with Cambodia last year, compared to a trade in services surplus of $8.04 million in 2023.

Trade between the Kingdom and the UK exceeded $300 million in the first four months of 2025, marking a nine percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to a recent report from Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).

The GDCE data showed that bilateral trade reached $309.7 million, up 9.6 percent from $282.6 million during the same period in 2024.

Cambodia’s exports to the UK totalled $293.4 million, an 11.3 percent year-on-year increase, while imports from the UK fell by 14.2 percent to $16.29 million.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) is currently exploring the opportunity of establishing a Cambodian private commercial centre in the UK to promote trade, attract investment, and strengthen economic ties.

According to an earlier MoC announcement, the proposed centre in the UK will serve as a platform to showcase Cambodian products and provide information on trade, investment, tourism, and culture to attract British businesses and investors.
