Mr. Sin Chansereyvutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for Civil Aviation, announced details of the B737-8 MAX (Boeing 737-800 MAX) aircraft that Cambodia plans to purchase from the United States in 10 units, each of which costs between 90-120 million US dollars, depending on the type and options of each aircraft.
Mr. Sin stated that the B737-8 MAX (Boeing 737-800 MAX) has between 162 and 210 seats, depending on the configuration of Business Class or Economy Class, and has a general flight range of more than 6,500 kilometers, and the short or long flight depends on the engine, with some types of engines being able to fly more than 5,600 kilometers.
Mr. Sin added that the B737-8 MAX (Boeing 737-800 MAX) is more fuel-efficient than the aircraft Cambodia has used before, with fuel efficiency of up to 14 percent, especially with lower noise levels.
Mr. Sin highlighted that the B737-8 MAX (Boeing 737-800 MAX) aircraft uses less fuel, is less noisy, is more economical, and has lower environmental pollution than other types of aircraft, and maintenance and repair costs are also low.
Mr. Sin said that the B737-8 MAX (Boeing 737-800 MAX) aircraft costs between $90 million and $120 million, depending on the type of aircraft that Cambodia orders.
Mr. Sin said that the B737-8 MAX (Boeing 737-800 MAX) aircraft needs to be ordered over a period of between 4 and 5 years because currently, many countries around the world have placed large orders for this Boeing aircraft.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol announced on August 1, 2025, that Cambodia would purchase 10 Boeing aircraft from the United States and could negotiate to purchase 10 more, while Cambodia would impose zero tariffs on all American goods while the United States would lower tariffs on Cambodia to 19%.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun stated that “Air Cambodia will negotiate to purchase 10 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft and has an option to purchase 10 more. Negotiations are currently underway and we hope to sign an agreement to confirm the purchase
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Sun emphasized that this Boeing aircraft is not easy to come by because Boeing factories are full and the new aircraft will only be available in 2031.
