Synopsis: The new routes will forge new economic bonds among Cambodia, China, and Japan, greatly facilitating travel for Cambodian and Japanese tourists.

Air Cambodia (K6), the national flag carrier, will launch new routes between Cambodia and Japan starting from October this year, facilitating travel for Cambodian and Japanese tourists.

The new route between Phnom Penh and two cities in Japan will be made with a stop in Fuzhou, China, the airline said.

The Phnom Penh-Fuzhou-Tokyo (KTI-FOC-NRT) route is scheduled for October 2025, and the Phnom Penh-Fuzhou-Kansai (KTI-FOC-KIX) route will commence in March 2026, the airline said in a statement issued on Friday.

Both routes will operate under Fifth Freedom traffic rights permitting passenger/cargo operations through Fuzhou (FOC), it added.

Zhan David, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, also announced the new international routes at the Cambodia National Pavilion during Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

“These new routes will forge new economic bonds among Cambodia, China, and Japan, greatly facilitating travel for Cambodian and Japanese tourists,” David said.

Representatives from well-known ticketing agencies, travel agencies, and industry associations in Japan were invited to the promotion event.

“Beyond shortening geographical distance, these routes will immerse Japanese travellers in the splendours of Khmer civilisation through our signature inflight cultural experiences,” he added.

The K6’s new route service to Japan’s two cities will be made via the new Phnom Penh Airport -Techo International Airport (KTI), which will commence in September of this year.

Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for Civil Aviation, lauded the move, saying SSCA has been working with the airline and relevant airport operators to facilitate the provision of landing services at those airports.

Speaking to Khmer Times, Vutha said, “The new route connection between the two countries is a significant development for both nations, facilitating tourists’ travels and boosting trade and investment.”

Cambodia has recorded a total of 3.42 million international passengers in the first half of 2025, representing a 16 percent year-on-year increase, according to the SSCA report.
