Cambodia-Japan flight route to promote tourism, trade relations, officials say

Air Cambodia, the national flag carrier, is set to launch a flight route between Cambodia (KTI) and Japan (NRT) with a stop in an airport in east China’s Fujian province, the company said.

Air Cambodia’s representative Keven Li shared the information during a meeting with Tuy Ri, Cambodian Ambassador to Japan and Stephen Cox, representative of AVIAREPS Japan, in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday.

According to Keven Li, the flight service will start from October 26 with three days per week: Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Ri lauded the progress of the Air Cambodia operations and support for participating in spreading the news of the launch of this flight to the Cambodian community in Japan and all Japanese friends to encourage Cambodian and Japanese citizens, as well as other foreigners, to join in supporting and travelling with Air Cambodia.

“The launch of flight service from Phnom Penh to Tokyo, Japan, in October will contribute to promoting tourism and trade relations between the two countries,” Ri said.

He also asked the airline to continue negotiating with the Japanese side to increase the number of direct flights between Cambodia and Japan.

Sinn Chanserey Vuntha, Secretary of State and spokesman of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), confirmed the move, saying that on the day of the first flight from Tokyo in late October, the airlines will also hold a welcoming ceremony for passengers arriving at the Techo International Airport (KTI).

“It is a good move of Cambodia’s aviation sector expanding flight routes to more destinations,” Vutha told Khmer Times yesterday.

“In addition to launching direct flights to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, the national flag carrier is planning to launch direct flights from Phnom Penh to Osaka, Japan, in the near future,” he added.

Cambodia received 4.08 million air travellers in the first seven months of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 16 percent, the SSCA’s latest report showed.
