Cambodian and Sri Lankan business leaders discussed strengthening trade and investment between the two countries, with a focus on shared potential in manufacturing, logistics, construction and real estate, energy, tourism, and services.
The investment promotion was raised during a meeting on Friday between Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and Chair of ASEAN Business Advisory Council-Cambodia, and a Sri Lankan business delegation led by Tilak Gunawardana, Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka-Greater Mekong Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
According to a CCC press release, the discussions focused on promoting trade and investment between the two countries, particularly in sectors with shared potential such as manufacturing, logistics, construction and real estate, energy, tourism and services.
In the course of the meeting, Meng highlighted the vital role of the private sector as a driver of economic growth and bilateral cooperation. He encouraged businessmen from both countries to seize emerging opportunities and explore possibilities for joint ventures.
“Sri Lankan businessmen can take advantage of Cambodia’s stable economy and its position as a gateway to ASEAN. Cambodian businessmen can benefit from Sri Lanka’s strengths in the service sector and its gateway to the Indian Ocean trade network,” said Meng.
He also emphasised Cambodia’s strong economic performance and potential across manufacturing, services, and infrastructure. He encouraged the Sri Lanka-Greater Mekong Business Council to support efforts for Sri Lankan Airlines to consider launching a direct flight from Colombo to Phnom Penh, which would help facilitate tourism, trade, and investment.
On his part, Tilak Gunawardana thanked Meng for the warm welcome and appreciated Cambodia’s economic progress. He noted the delegation’s strong interest in learning more about Cambodia’s economy and business opportunities.
Gunawardana also extended an invitation for Meng to lead a Cambodian delegation to visit Sri Lanka at an appropriate time.
It may be recalled that the Sri Lanka-Greater Mekong Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was established to promote and strengthen trade, investment, and tourism ties between Sri Lanka and the Mekong region, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
