A group of French journalists and producers Friday expressed keen interest on producing a documentary on Cambodia’s investment climate, reform-driven growth and expanding tourism opportunities, aiming to promote the economic and cultural potential to global audiences.
Media personalities Michael Damon and Yves Deria led a delegation of French journalists and documentary filmmakers and met Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), in Phnom Penh.
According to Chanthol, the discussion focused on the delegation’s project to produce a documentary film in Cambodia that will showcase the country’s transformative progress in political stability and sustainable socio-economic development.
During the meeting, Chanthol apprised Cambodia’s current economic and social context, highlighting the favourable investment potential and improving business environment.
He further explained the Royal Government’s deep-rooted reform policies, which form the foundation for development across all sectors, alongside its commitment to achieving the vision of becoming a high-income country by 2050.
The delegation admired the remarkable progress and extended their gratitude for the comprehensive information provided, noting that the insights will significantly support the factual and in-depth content of their documentary aimed at promoting Cambodia to both international and domestic audiences.
Both sides also exchanged views on diplomatic and economic relations between Cambodia and France, as well as broader cooperation with the international community.
The meeting also acknowledged the French contribution to the Paris Peace Agreements of October 23, 1991, a milestone that paved the way for Cambodia’s modern development trajectory.
On Sunday, the French delegation also met Minister of Tourism (MoT) Huot Hak and exchanged ideas and requested recommendations on the documentary project titled ‘Cambodia’s Prosperous Growth’.
During the meeting, Hak appreciated the initiative of the delegation to produce a documentary that is historical, factual and international in nature, linking Cambodia’s emerging tourism potential with expanding investment opportunities, particularly within the tourism sector.
Hak highlighted the rich tourism assets, including priceless heritage, the wonders of Phnom Penh at the confluence of four rivers and the warm and renowned hospitality – the ‘Cambodian smile’ – all reinforced by ongoing peace, security and development in all sectors.
According to the producers, the film is scheduled to be screened during the 20th Summit of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF or La Francophonie) in November 2026, in Siem Reap province.
TV5 Monde will support the production of ‘Cambodia’s Prosperous Growth’, a documentary showcasing the Kingdom’s economic reforms and tourism potential to international audiences across more than 200 regions worldwide.
