During a working meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on March 4, 2024, Paul Serra, CEO of SunRice Group of Australia, expressed his intention to invest in the establishment of a special rice processing plant in Cambodia for export to overseas markets.
In the meeting, the CEO of SunRice Group stated that SunRice Group is the first Australian company to import rice from Cambodia to Australia and New Zealand. At the same time, the CEO noted that Cambodia has potential in the agricultural sector, with Cambodian rice having a world-renowned reputation. Cambodia also has a highly competitive young labour force, stable electricity prices, and better transport infrastructure, cellular interface, and logistics.
Based on these potentials, the company is interested in further strengthening and expanding relations with Cambodia in the agricultural sector, focusing on the rice processing industry, in which the company expresses its intention to invest in the establishment of rice processing plants, especially organic rice for export.
In response, the prime minister welcomed the company’s intention to expand its investment activities in Cambodia in the rice processing industry for export. At present, the Royal Government has set out a policy to deploy agricultural experts at the commune or Sangkat level throughout the country to support farmers on a technical basis to increase the productivity of local agricultural products.
In addition, the premier also confirmed to the CEO of the company the attention of the Royal Government to the expansion of transport infrastructure, logistics systems, and policies for the development of the electricity sector in Cambodia and is focusing on the use of clean energy and renewable energy to make business and trade activities in Cambodia more competitive and easier to connect, as well as reduce shipping costs.
He also encouraged companies to visit Cambodia to seek more investment opportunities in collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions in Cambodia. Dap-news
