Cambodia on Saturday called for a wider economic integration among ASEAN countries at the 30th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat (30th AEM Retreat) held in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR.
Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce (MoC) and ASEAN Economic Minister for Cambodia led a delegation to participate in the 30th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Retreat (30th AEM Retreat) to discuss and follow up on the relevant signs of progress of ASEAN economic integration.
Nimul attended the 30th AEM Retreat at the invitation from Malaithong Kommasith, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR and Chair of ASEAN Economic Ministers for this year.
The 30th AEM Retreat was organised to discuss and follow up on the relevant progress of ASEAN economic integration such as the Annual Priorities for 2024, the Progress of the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement Negotiation, the Progress of ATIGA Upgrade Negotiation, ASEAN Sustainability Initiatives and the development of ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
The dialogue also encompassed the ASEAN strategy for new and emerging issues under ASEAN+1 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), ASEAN-China 3.0 Upgrade Negotiation, ASEAN Services Facilitation Framework, especially the endorsement of Priority Economic Deliverables for Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2024.
The consultation aimed at briefing on the ASEAN-BAC’s legacy projects, priorities and initiatives for this year as well as to consider their recommendations and possible areas of collaboration with the ASEAN-BAC to strengthen private sector engagements in ASEAN economic integration.
On February 28, Nimul attended the 13th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting along with Nguyen Chi Dzung, Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam and Khamjane Vongphosy, Minister of Planning and Investment of Lao PDR.
The three Ministers at the 13th JCC meeting signed several proposals for the CLV-DTA development such as the infrastructure connectivity development, human resources development and the development of the potential industry in the triangle area which is also part of the economic integration with ASEAN countries. khmertimeskh
