Agrotourism is on the rise in Cyprus as Deputy Minister of Tourism, Κostas Koumis, has noted, citing data for overnight stays in agrotourism accommodation.
In 2023 they reached 166,293, in comparison to 153,196 in 2022, he said.
Koumis was speaking at the 18th Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus Agrotourism Company, held in Platres on 15 April.
According to a Deputy Ministry press release, Koumis referred to the Deputy Ministry’s incentive plans for mountainous areas, rural areas, but also arid areas, which undoubtedly, as he said, support the countryside.
n relation to agrotourism services, Deputy Minister stated that it is very encouraging that there has been an increasing trend in recent years, in the preferences of thousands of people around the world. This trend is also witnessed in our country, and we are particularly satisfied, he said, noting that an increase in overnight stays in traditional buildings was recorded. Particularly, in 2023, 166,293 overnight stays were recorded in traditional buildings, compared to 153,196 in 2022.
He noted that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is active in this effort to further develop agrotourism in Cyprus, indicating that the incentive plans that have been announced in the previous months, but also the continuous promotion of the agritourism sector in the major foreign markets state the Ministry’s involvement.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism also underlined that improvement of rural infrastructure and, by extension, improvement of the standard of living of rural residents is a priority for the Government.
