As Cambodia’s tourism sector is recovering with a significant surge in foreign tourist arrivals, several airlines have expanded their networks and enhanced connectivity to the Kingdom.
On May 1, Emirates Airlines will start flying between Dubai and Phnom Penh. The airline said the new route will create more opportunities for travellers to explore diverse and culturally rich destinations.
The national flag carrier Cambodia Angkor Air is scheduled to launch a direct flight route between Phnom Penh and New Delhi in India starting June 16, offering the new service to be operated four times a week – Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Phnom Penh-based airline said the new service will strengthen the bilateral ties between Cambodia and India, facilitating increased tourism and business opportunities between the two nations.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Cambodia Angkor Air will jointly collaborate in organizing Cambodia’s Tourism Roadshow to the Indian market on May 1.
“To celebrate the First Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024, Cambodia Angkor Air will launch the first-ever direct flight from New Delhi to Phnom Penh with four flights per week, starting June 16, 2024,” the airline recently said.
According to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, IndiGo Airlines, India’s low-cost carrier, has also received approval from Cambodian authorities to operate flights between New Delhi and Siem Reap, home of UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park.
All these new flights will facilitate the arrival of more tourists to the Kingdom, said Top Sopheak, Secretary of State and spokesman of the Ministry of Tourism. “Some of these new routes make it easier for passengers to visit Cambodia,” Sopheak told Khmer Times.
Cambodia attracted 1.58 million international tourists in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, up 22.5 percent from 1.29 million during the same period in 2023, said a Ministry of Tourism report.
About 40 percent of foreign tourist arrivals were via airports, a year-on-year increase of 33 percent and the rest were via land border gates and waterways, read the report.
