Cambodia and Korea yesterday discussed ways to boost tourists connectivity through the joint initiative to conduct more events, increase flights and develop infrastructures.
This came as Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism received a courtesy call from the Korean delegation led by Oh Young-hun, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province of the Republic of Korea in Phnom Penh.
Soken warmly welcomed the visiting delegation for visiting the Kingdom to explore and enhance cooperation between the two countries. He said that the existing good relations between the people and the similarities of the two nations’ cultures have helped generate common benefits for tourism cooperation.
The minister also apprised the Korean delegation about the changing scenario of the Kingdom’s tourism industry in the past nine months specially the modernizing of the institutions, strengthening collaboration with the private sector and creating more opportunities to improve citizens’ welfare.
He emphasized the MoT efforts to rebrand the tourism sector, identify priority markets (Korea is one of the targets) and provide a competitive tourism industry through the development of human resources, predesign of structures and institutions and digitalise the tourism sector as a whole.
The fact that the achievement of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) in attracting both foreign and domestic investments to build an attractive and sustainable tourism industry was brought to the notice of the visiting delegates.
Appreciating the warm gesture accorded, the Jeju Governor said, “Cambodia and Korea shared similar experiences in terms of the tourism sector hence the tourists should have similar tastes in the products and services as well.”
He went on to inform the minister about the potential tourism cooperation especially in Siem Reap province by boosting more direct flights, developing infrastructure and modernising traveling procedures.
Jeju province encompasses the South Korean Island of Jeju in the Korea Strait. It’s known for its beach resorts and volcanic landscape of craters and cave-like lava tubes.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Ho Yeon Chang, Korean Air Country Manager to Cambodia said, “Korean Air continues to monitor travel and trade demand and is committed to discuss with all relevant authorities to facilitate and strengthen the strong relationship between our two countries.”
