Vietnam Airlines to open Hanoi-Phnom Penh route in October

Vietnam Airlines has announced a plan to operate direct flights between Hanoi and Phnom Penh starting October 27.

The national flag carrier will run four round-trip flights using Airbus A321 aircraft on a weekly basis on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Currently, passengers travelling with the airline from Hanoi to Phnom Penh need to transit in Vientiane, Laos.

The new route will raise the number of weekly flights connecting the two countries to 86.

In addition, the carrier has signed a Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation with Cambodia Angkor Air, the Cambodian Tourism Association and the Vietnamese travel company, Saigon Tourist Group.

The MoU is set to coordinate activities between the partners to promote tourism in both Vietnam and Cambodia, while engaging in mutual support regarding their services and products.

On average, about 450,000 people travel by air between both countries each year, and the yearly growth rate in tourist numbers has jumped 24% in the past three decades.

Last year, one million Vietnamese travellers visited Cambodia, and more than 400,000 Cambodian tourists went to Vietnam. VNS
