KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) — Cyprus, an island nation nestled in the Mediterranean Sea, is a holiday and investment destination worth considering, thanks to its rich history, natural beauty, and thriving economy.

Consul Salah Essa of Cyprus’s Honorary Consulate in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, highlighted Cyprus’s appeal to holidaymakers and investors from Asia, including Malaysia, inviting them to explore the island’s vast opportunities.

“Cyprus offers a wealth of attractions and opportunities, from its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes to a dynamic business environment. Together, let us build bridges of friendship and collaboration,” he told Bernama recently.
Cyprus with a population of 1.2 million is located about 8,000 kilometres from Malaysia. Though no direct flights are available now, many airlines including Qatar Airways offer convenient transit routes to Cyprus.

With its capital, Nicosia, serving as the main business centre and a hub of rich history and culture, Cyprus’s strategic location positions it as a crossroads of civilizations.
Though geographically a part of West Asia, the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans have left their mark on Cyprus, with the diverse heritage reflected in the island’s stunning archaeological sites, Byzantine churches, and medieval castles.
“Cypriot culture is a vibrant blend of traditions and modernity, expressed through its warm hospitality, delicious cuisine, and lively festivals.
“Cyprus also presents a delightful fusion of Greek, Turkish, and Middle Eastern cuisine, such as souvlaki, moussaka, and halloumi cheese, and indulge in the traditional meze – a selection of small plates that offer a comprehensive exploration of Cypriot flavours,” he said.
Apart from its pristine beaches, thrilling adventures in the Troodos Mountains, and captivating archaeological sites, Cyprus is also a flourishing business hub that warmly welcomes Malaysian entrepreneurs.
“The island boasts a favourable tax regime, a robust legal framework, and a skilled workforce, making it an ideal destination for establishing or expanding your business. Key sectors like tourism, shipping, financial services, and real estate offer promising prospects for Malaysian investors,” he said.
“The options don’t stop there; there are numerous halal places, especially in cities like Paphos, Nicosia, and Larnaca,” he said.
Salah noted that Cyprus offers a world-class education system with universities renowned for their academic excellence and multicultural environment.
“Additionally, scholarship opportunities exist to bridge the gap and make Cypriot education more accessible to deserving Malaysian students. Cyprus beckons Malaysians with its captivating charm, offering a plethora of opportunities for exploration, investment, and personal growth,” he said.
