Cyprus airports see 6.6 million passengers by July

A total of 6.6 million passengers travelled through Cyprus’ airports between January and July this year, according to airport operator Hermes Airports.

In addition, the company said that it expects the figures for August to exceed 1.5 million passengers, similar to the levels recorded in 2023.

According to the Hermes Airport’s latest report, in June alone, the passenger count soared to 1.3 million, a rise of 105 per cent compared to the same month last year.
Larnaca airport handled the majority of this number, welcoming over 895,000 travellers, while Paphos airport saw more than 404,000 passengers.

July continued this upward trajectory with around 1.5 million people moving through the two airports, slightly up by 1 per cent from July last year.

More than a million of these passengers passed through Larnaca, while Paphos accounted for more than 430,000.
August, traditionally the busiest month for Cypriot airports, is expected to maintain last year’s levels, with passenger numbers anticipated to once again exceed 1.5 million.

The company also mentioned that, in terms of connectivity, the island is well served this month with 55 airlines operating 156 routes to 38 countries.

“Although this year started with several external challenges as a consequence of various technical issues that continue to affect airlines, our efforts to improve the situation have paid off, as already recorded in the performance of Cypriot airports,” said Maria Kouroupi, Hermes Airports’ Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communications.

She added that “from the start of the year until July, Larnaca and Pafos airports recorded the highest passenger throughput over time, with a total of 6.6 million passengers passing through them”.

“We hope that the positive picture of passenger traffic will continue, so that 2024 will be a new milestone for Cypriot tourism,” Kouroupi concluded.
