The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office (IPAAO) have met to discuss Cambodia’s agri-food trends and the potential for bilateral cooperation.
The discussions were held at the CDC headquarters in Phnom Penh on Wednesday this week between Suon Sophal, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the CDC, and visiting representative Diedrah Kelly, Executive Director of Canada’s IPAAO, based in Manila, the Philippines.
On the occasion, Sophal expressed warm welcome to Diedrah Kelly’s visit to Cambodia, and informed her about the current investment environment in Cambodia which the Royal Government has striven to improve and make more attractive and favourable to both local and foreign investors.
Regarding the agri-food sector, Sophal cited Cambodia’s strategic agricultural products and the presence of the Agri-Food Investment Desk (AFID), a consultative desk specialising in agri-food promotion and innovation.
In reply, Diedrah Kelly thanked Suon Sophal for offering detailed information about the overview of the favourable business environment in Cambodia, especially on trends in the agri-food sector.
She said that she believed firmly that IPAAO would be able to contribute to the implementation of joint activities between the CDC and AFID in the future, helping to elevate bilateral cooperation to new heights.
Cambodia’s top agri-food products include mangos, cashew nuts, bananas, Kampot pepper, sweet potato, longan, cassava, rice, sesame seeds, and chilli peppers – among others. AKP
