“This trade fair not only aims to increase bilateral trade but also to enhance the image and customers’ trust in Thai products in the eyes of our Cambodian friends, further strengthening the bond between our two countries. Events like this serve as a vital platform to boost local economies and tourism in Cambodia, fostering mutual growth,” the news statement further said.

Speaking at the Mini Thailand Week 2024, Ambassador Atthakor said that the Thai Embassy in Cambodia pays attention to strengthening the market for quality Thai products and services in the Cambodian market as part of increasing bilateral trade between Thailand and Cambodia.

He said that this program also helped to expand the economic and tourism sector in Battambang province and also provided an opportunity for Thai and Cambodian businessmen to meet and negotiate partnerships with each other.

Lou also said that development in all fields has played an important role and become a solid foundation in improving the living standards of the people such as the development of various infrastructure, roads extended from one district to another especially the road along the border which makes it easier to travel and trade to cross the border.

Recalling the cordial ties with Thailand, Lou said Battambang is a province bordering Thailand. It has five border crossings with Thailand: two international and three regional checkpoints. In the past, Cambodia and Thailand have traded various goods imported from Thailand as well as agricultural products exports from Cambodia to Thailand.

“So far the exchange of goods between Battambang and the three provinces of Thailand, Chonburi, Sa Kaeo and Trat provinces has been going well. I want to inform that the cooperation between Battambang and Thailand is running smoothly, both in terms of trade, border security and cracking down illegal border crossing,” Lou added.

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Thailand in 2023 reached more than $9 billion, and both countries would like to see this figure increase to $15 billion by 2025. Thailand is the sixth largest investor in Cambodia, with the number of Thai tourists visiting Cambodia also the first ranking.
