CDC, EU hold public-private dialogue to listen to European investors’ concerns

The First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) Sun Chanthol, and Igor Driesmans, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Cambodia, on Tuesday, chaired the first public-private dialogue between Cambodia and the EU to hear the concerns of European investors in Cambodia.

The first Cambodia-EU public-private dialogue is part of the Investment Maintenance Mechanism, which was organised under the auspices of Prime Minister Hun Manet and received the approval of the EU leaders, to use this dialogue as a joint official agenda from all relevant institutions of the government of Cambodia and the EU, to listen and address the challenges of European investors in Cambodia and raise the confidence of other European investors looking to invest in Cambodia.

Chanthol stated that the organisation of the first public-private dialogue reflected the attention of the government to listen to their concerns, through the regular use of the official agenda, to ensure the monitoring and resolution of investor challenges as a priority.

He said that Cambodia is open to investment from all countries in the world, and now in addition to facilitating and maintaining investment, the CDC has continued to work to knock on the door of potential investors from other countries, including the EU.

Chanthol added that the CDC is set to hold a second visit to the EU, soon after the Cambodian delegation completed its first visit in June this year.

Driesmans highlighted the framework for organising the first public-private dialogue, which has become a new avenue to bring together dialogue between all government stakeholders, facilitated by the CDC and the EU under the coordination of the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia to examine the challenges of investors.

In response to Chanthol’s remarks, the ambassador supported the CDC’s initiative in preparation for a second visit to the EU and affirmed that the EU will continue to cooperate with Cambodia to increase the development of Cambodian society.
