Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan discuss ways to enhance trade ties

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and the Kyrgyz Republic Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish bilateral consultations while discussing the possibility of enhancing trade and investment between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) and Zheenbek Kulubaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Attending the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the two foreign ministers took opportunities to discuss the possibility of enhancing bilateral and multilateral relations, especially in the trade and investment sectors as well as strengthening people-to-people exchanges.

In the course of the meeting, both ministers signed an MoU on the establishment of bilateral consultations and also agreed to hold a joint meeting in the near future.

Kulubaev expressed willingness to welcome Cambodian students who want to study in Kyrgyzstan as the country specialises in the health sector.

Every year students from many countries pursue medical studies in Kyrgyzstan.

It may be informed that the Kyrgyz Republic is a country located in the central of Asia with a population of 7 million. Kyrgyzstan and Cambodia established diplomatic relations in 1995, building the cooperation for nearly 30 years.

Based on MFAIC press release, Sophea took part in the Summit of the Future and the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Deputy Prime Minister will take part in the Seventh ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting, the Second G20 Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting and the dinner roundtable hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), the statement added.
