Cyprus and China to sign aviation agreement to boost air connectivity

Cyprus and China are signing on Thursday an inter-state agreement in the aviation sector aimed at liberalising flights between the two countries.

The deal, to be signed in Nicosia, seeks to enhance air connectivity for both leisure and business travellers.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and intergovernmental agreement will be signed by Han Zhu, Deputy Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and Panayiota Demetriou, Director of the Civil Aviation Department of Cyprus, under the authorisation of the cabinets.

According to a statement from the Transport Ministry, “this is a very important agreement which seeks to improve air connectivity between the two countries”.

The ministry also emphasised that the agreement will offer “the opportunity to increase the number of travellers for both leisure and business purposes”.

Additionally, the agreement is expected to have a wider impact, as “this agreement will help improve connectivity and trade more broadly with Far Eastern countries and Europe”.

The signing ceremony will take place at the Department of Civil Aviation at noon on Thursday.
