Cambodia eArrival app users exceed 400,000 in less than two months

Ever since its launch at the beginning of last month, the Cambodia eArrival app has already been used by over 400,000 travellers. The app has been downloaded more than 200,000 times by users, a report from the Ministry of Interior revealed last week.

The app requires users to submit their details seven days prior to their departure in seven different languages. It can be accessed without difficulty on the Cambodia eArrival app or the official website of the ministry.

To date, the total number of users accessing it has surpassed 420,000 after its official launch. The system was inaugurated in all the international airports across the country on September 1, 2024.

Touch Sokchak, deputy spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said that the system saves time for tourists by allowing them to submit all the requisite details well in advance. It also includes visa on arrival applications, customs reports and health declarations.

“The Cambodia e-Arrival is another achievement of the Royal Government in its efforts to attract tourists and investors and enhance security in the digital environment,” Sokhak told media last week.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the system would also be introduced at international border crossings and other points of entry into the Kingdom in the immediate future.

Chhay Sivlin, President Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA) told Khmer Times on Sunday, “Cambodia can organise a range of activities and events that showcase the country’s diverse offerings. This could involve hosting cultural festivals that highlight traditional music, dance, and cuisine, as well as organising adventure tourism activities such as trekking, cycling and water sports.”

Additionally, promoting special interest tourism, such as ecotourism and heritage tourism, can attract a wider range of visitors who are seeking unique and authentic travel experiences.

Collaborating with neighbouring countries to develop cross-border tourism initiatives can also help increase tourist numbers by offering integrated travel experiences across the region, she said.

According to Stefan Hanselmann, Director GIZ ICONE, “One of the areas that could be further explored is MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions or events). This could be embedded into a variety of tourism products that highlight the cultural side of Cambodian tourism. However, this requires a focused strategic approach and tailored marketing for relevant customer segments. Also, the relevant infrastructure needs to be in place.”
