The United States Department of the Treasury (USDT) Monday praised the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) for its effective management of the economy and public finances and the proactive response to challenges, despite the uncertainties posed by external factors.
The appreciation was conveyed to Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) during a courtesy visit from Robert Kaproth, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Asia and the Pacific and Bridgette Walker, Chargé d’Affaire of the US Embassy Phnom Penh.
Pornmoniroth welcomed the US Treasurer and the American delegation for their visit to assess Cambodia’s economic and financial landscape. “This visit will play a crucial role in strengthening Cambodia-US bilateral cooperation,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister told the visiting delegation about Cambodia’s ongoing initiatives to develop policies, strategies and measures designed to foster nationwide socioeconomic growth.
“Despite the high uncertainty of external factors, Cambodia is committed to achieving 6 percent economic growth rate by the end of this year and aims for 6.3 percent in 2025,” he said.
Kaproth expressed optimism toward economic management, public finance policy, past achievements and long-term goals as RGC has been putting remarkable effort into promoting and developing economic growth.
The US Treasurer praised the government for its continued effort to address the challenges and seek solutions for both policy and technical levels.
According to MEF press release, the two sides reaffirmed their common goal of strengthening and deepening bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the United States in all sectors.
During the meeting, Pornmoniroth said that the RGC has been developing policies and mechanisms to optimise revenue expenditure, economic management and public finances, contributing significantly to maintaining economic resilience.
In particular, it will enhance the ‘Revenue Collection Strategy 2024-2028’ and the programme to promote competitiveness, increase diversification and strengthen resilience for economic growth in the highly uncertain global environment from 2024-2028, he added.
He stressed that MEF will continue to work with the US to facilitate and promote bilateral cooperation by promoting trade and investment activities between the two countries for mutual benefits.
The Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the US Treasurer for his efforts in examining and understanding the situation in the Kingdom, hoping that the US will continue to provide technical assistance in the priority sectors.
