More than 2,000 plants handed out at Larnaca airport

More than 2,000 plants were handed out to members of the public at Larnaca airport on Saturday morning.

The plants were handed out as part of the airport’s holding company Hermes airports’ ‘Green Lemonade’ project and included a selection of fruit trees and ornamental and aromatic plants.

The handing out of plants is one branch of the project, with the other seeing the fruit of 120 lemon trees from Larnaca airport being sent to the Kean factory in Limassol and being turned into lemonade.

The lemonade was then put up for sale at the airport, with the proceeds going towards environmental causes, including the donation of a drone to the forestry department.

Hermes airports senior director Maria Koroupi said Larnaca airport has “created a cycle of sustainability which extends to the wider community,” and that the offering of free plants “demonstrates our commitment to increasing urban greenery”.
