Larnaca district to see four new schools

The Ministry of Education has announced plans to build four new schools in the Larnaca district, including one that is currently under construction.

The news was shared by the Education Minister during a meeting with Larnaca’s mayor and deputy mayors, who expressed satisfaction with the progress made on long-standing requests for the district.

A new Technical School is currently being built near the Rizoelia roundabout, with an estimated cost of €35 million. The school is expected to be completed by 2027, replacing the ageing Agios Lazaros Technical School.

The next school to be constructed will be the Livadia-Voroklini Regional Primary School. The project brief has been approved, and tenders for consultants will be called in November.

Another primary school is planned for Oroklini to address overcrowding in the rapidly developing municipal districts of Larnaca.

The meeting also discussed the overcrowding at Livadia Gymnasium. The minister emphasised the need to reduce the number of students by referring them to other gymnasiums in the city to improve learning conditions.

Plans are also underway to build a new gymnasium on the site of the former Dianelio Technical School. The project brief has been prepared, and the next steps are the preparation of the building programme and the calling of tenders for consultants. The Ministry of Education aims to create a STEM-Sports and Music Gymnasium on the site.

Seismic upgrade works at the Evriviadio Gymnasium are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The meeting also discussed the establishment of a School of Sciences, Sea Technology, and Sustainable Development at the Cyprus University of Technology in Larnaca. The government is expected to approve the Feasibility Study and implement the university school as soon as possible.
