The 9th National Skills Competition 2024, organized by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training (MLVT), began yesterday aimed at engaging the next generation in understanding the importance of skills while attracting key investors from both domestic and international markets.
Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, presided over the opening ceremony of the 9th National Skills Competition 2024 (October 21-25) at Phnom Penh Technical Vocational Education and Training Park (TVET Park Phnom Penh).
The National Skills Competition 2024 aims to inspire excellence and introduce young people to various professional skills while providing the resources needed to shape their future and engage the next generation in understanding the relevance and importance of these skills.
“The skills competition is held every two years as an event for outstanding students and young professionals from enterprises and institutions to showcase their talents, creativity and passion in their respective careers,” Sour said.
In addition, the skills competition provided opportunities for young people, trainers, industrial training institutions and government to meet and learn from each other, discover innovative technologies and methods for learning, teaching and training the future workforce to acquire on-demand skills as well as improve the attractiveness of skills, the minister added.
“I would like to encourage the candidates to make every effort to use their abilities, knowledge, talents and skills in the competition to win by respecting and following the rules and guidelines of the competition committee,” Sour emphasized.
“This national skills competition is beneficial for various stakeholders and can bring significant benefits from both local and foreign investors.”
The minister hoped that the 9th National Skills Competition 2024 would be successful and discover the winners with high talent and ability to represent Cambodia in the 14th ASEAN Skills Competition 2025 in the Philippines and other international countries in the future to honor yourself, family and the nation as a whole.
According to Ministry of Labor, there are total of 93 candidates, with 12 females, from 16 institutions to compete in some skills including electrical networking, bricklaying, business computer programming, welding skills, website design, graphic design and information network cabling.
Successful candidates will be awarded with a medal and get an incentive from the government, a gold medal and 3 million riels, a silver medal and 2 million riels and a bronze medal and 1 million riels.
It should be noted that the 8th National Skills Competition 2022 saw the participation of 61 candidates from 13 institutions at Phnom Penh Technical Vocational Education and Training Park.
