Despite the rapidly evolving digital landscapes, business leaders and technology experts Thursday congregated at an event titled, ‘Navigating the Digital Future’, organized by the Indian Business Chamber in Cambodia (IBCC) to explore potential collaboration in business, trade and cultural relations between India and the Kingdom.
The ‘Navigating the Digital Future’ event was presided over by Dr Devyani Uttam Khobragade, Indian Ambassador to Cambodia, Babulal Parihar, President of IBCC, So Visothy, Secretary of State of Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) and Eng Sophea, Director of Banking Services Department of National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) at the Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel in the capital.
Addressing the event, Parihar briefed on the initiative to explore dynamic potential and development in the Kingdom. “As we look toward the future, IBCC is working to foster business, trade and investment opportunities between the two nations,” he said.
“We are excited to collaborate with our Cambodian counterparts in promoting the development of agriculture, education, digital, health care and tourism.”
In her remarks, the Indian Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC).
“It is high turn for us (Indian Embassy) to leverage the good relations as well as understanding culture and civilization into boosting trade and investment for the benefit of the people in both countries,” she said.
Ambassador Khobragade emphasised that today’s event is a welcome step in that direction.
She underlined that the Embassy of India gives high priority to the facilitation of farmers and attracting investment. “Therefore, it is a matter of satisfaction for us that the bilateral trade has grown steadily in the last few years.”
The event also provided a platform for a panel discussion on ‘How digital payments and fintech are changing the financial landscape’ which was moderated by Niraj Gupta, Director of Macro Computing Solutions Co Ltd and Board of Directors of IBCC.
The panelists including Manu Rajan, Division CEO of Wing (Cambodia) Limited Specialised Bank, Stephen Higgins, Managing Partner of Mekong Strategic Capital, Rahul M., Director of Digital and Technology of Heineken (Cambodia) Co Ltd and Thomas Pokorny, CEO of Pi Pay Plc discussed the essential role of fintech and digital payments in transforming economies, addressing key issues such as financial inclusion, cybersecurity, and the regulatory challenges encountered by both emerging and established markets.
According to IBCC release, the event is an attempt to unite business leaders, government officials and technology experts from India and Cambodia to delve into the rapidly evolving digital landscape and uncover substantial business opportunities for the two countries.
IBCC aims to establish a platform for key stakeholders from both nations to exchange ideas, collaborate on new initiatives and explore the vast potential of the digital economy.
