Cyprus represented at GITEX 2024

The Energy Ministry announced on Wednesday that it led Cyprus’ presence at GITEX Global 2024 in Dubai.

Cyprus’ participation at the event, the ministry explained, showcased the country’s advancements in technology and promoted it as a Mediterranean hub for AI, cybersecurity, and innovative partnerships.

GITEX Global 2024, now in its 44th year, is recognised as the world’s largest and most established technology exhibition.

For over four decades, it has provided a crucial platform for tech creators, investors, and enthusiasts to connect and collaborate.

This year, the event expanded across two mega venues—the Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai Harbour—with more than 40 exhibition halls.

Hosting tech giants and startups alike, GITEX showcased advancements across artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, mobility, sustainable technology, and other sectors, attracting a global audience keen to explore the latest innovations.

According to a statement from the Ministry, “the Cyprus pavilion, supported by the Cyprus Information Technology Enterprise Association (CITEA), hosted 14 pioneering technology companies operating in areas such as life sciences, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, and applied research” during the event, which took place from October 14 to 18.

During the “Tech Talk Sessions,” which attracted over 200,000 visitors, Cypriot companies presented innovative technologies, while Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides, Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) director general Theodoros Loukaidis, CITEA president Dimitris Nisiotis, and Cyprus’ Commercial Counsellor in Dubai, Georgios Partasides, emphasising the potential of the Cypriot technology industry.

The Ministry further explained that they “highlighted the role of Cyprus as an emerging technology hub in the Mediterranean, enhancing its image as an attractive destination for investment and partnerships in the technology sector.”

The report added that the event “also served as a platform for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Deputy Minister of Research Nicodemos Damianou with Khazna Data Centres, the largest data center provider in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”

This MoU, the Ministry clarified, “strengthens Cyprus-UAE relations and reinforces our country’s presence as a technological innovation hub in the region.”
