Tyre manufacturer Sailun plans to build an industrial park in Cambodia

On 30 October, Chinese tyre manufacturer Sailun announced it is building an industrial park in Cambodia called the “Cambodia Kampot Special Economic Zone Project” (Kampot SEZ).

Furthermore, Sailun said that it is preparing to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, Kampot Bay Investment Co., Ltd., in Cambodia, which will be responsible for implementing the Kampot SEZ. The project’s total investment is about US$110 million, which Sailun’s self-raised funds will cover.

In March 2021, Sailun said it would invest 1.178 billion yuan in the Cambodia project to produce 5 million “semi-steel radial tyres” there. By June, the investment figure had risen to 2.29 billion yuan and 9 million tyres a year in capacity. With both the investment and rubber consumption figures in mind, Sailun plans to achieve roughly 3 million tyres a year capacity during the first phase, rising to 9 million between now and 2026.
