Siem Reap in Cambodia, home to the famous Angkor Wat Temple, has taken out the top spot for Australia’s trending travel destinations in 2025, according to a travel-comparison website, Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2025 report quoted by SBS News.
For Australian travellers, Japan has been at the top list, but in 2025, Siem Reap in Cambodia has emerged as the top trending travel spot for them, said the same source, underlining that interest has increased a whopping 529 percent.
Angkor Wat Temple is located in the Angkor Archaeological Park, inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1992. Covering an area of 401 square kilometres, the Angkor contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries, and it consists of scores of key temples such as the Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Chau Say Tevoda, and Ta Keo, among others.
Other regions topping the chart of Australia’s trending travel destinations in 2025 include Thailand’s Krabi, Busuanga in the Philippines, Korea’s Daegu, Rovaniemi in Finland, Cusco in Peru, Tromsø in Norway, Almaty in Kazakhstan, and Labuan Bajo and Yogyakarta in Indonesia. AKP
