The total number of registered vehicles in Cyprus increased by 11.5 per cent during the January-October period of 2024, reaching 42,930, compared to 38,503 in the same period of 2023, according to a report from the Cyprus Statistical Service.
Specifically, registrations of saloon passenger cars rose by 8.2 per cent, totalling 33,440, compared to 30,897 in the same period in 2023.
Of these saloon passenger cars, 13,308 (39.8 per cent) were new, while 20,132 (60.2 per cent) were used cars. However, rental cars saw a significant decrease of 29.5 per cent, totalling 3,637.
The share of petrol-powered saloon cars in this category decreased to 49.5 per cent during the January-October 2024 period (down from 58.9 per cent in 2023), as did the share of diesel-powered vehicles (from 10.1 per cent in 2023 to 10 per cent in 2024).
Conversely, the share of electric vehicles rose from 2.6 per cent in 2023 to 3.8 per cent in 2024, while hybrid vehicle registrations increased from 28.3 per cent to 36.7 per cent.
Bus registrations fell to 125 during the January-October 2024 period, compared to 279 in the same period of 2023.
Meanwhile, registrations of cargo vehicles rose to 4,823 during the same period, up from 3,676 in 2023, marking an increase of 31.2 per cent.
Specifically, light trucks increased by 34.2 per cent to 3,855, heavy trucks grew by 29.7 per cent to 576, road tractors (towing vehicles) rose by 57.9 per cent to 199, and rental vehicles decreased by 17.5 per cent to 193.
Registrations of mopeds under 50cc rose to 627 in the January-October 2024 period, compared to 263 in the same period of 2023.
Meanwhile, registrations of motorcycles over 50cc increased by 14.4 per cent, reaching 3,348, compared to 2,927 in the same period of 2023.
In October 2024, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,111, marking a 2.7 per cent decrease compared to 4,223 in October 2023.
Registrations of saloon passenger cars dropped by 8.9 per cent, totalling 3,096, compared to 3,398 in October 2023.
