Phnom Penh, November 12, 2024 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet hosted a solidarity dinner this afternoon with prominent “Lin” entrepreneurs from around the world, aimed at fostering economic relations and attracting foreign investment to Cambodia. The event brought together 220 international guests, including members of the World Linen Chamber of Commerce from various countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and China.
Notably, the gathering included an impressive delegation of 110 representatives from Malaysia, 25 from Singapore, and attendees from multiple Chinese regions, including Beijing, Guangdong, and Hong Kong, among others. In total, around 350 nationals and foreign investors, who have demonstrated a commitment to the Cambodian market, participated in the event.
According to the Lin family business association in Cambodia, this international event was established with three primary objectives. First, it aims to mobilize foreign investors by showcasing Cambodia’s potential and current investment opportunities. While the focus is on “Lin” entrepreneurs, the event welcomed a diverse group of investors, reflecting the association’s bilingual expertise and extensive experience in working with international businesses, particularly from China.
The association also aims to provide a platform for dialogue between investors, enabling them to discuss challenges and explore new business opportunities in collaboration with the Cambodian government. Additionally, a key goal of the event is to counteract misrepresentations of Cambodia that have affected its image, particularly regarding safety and investment potential, by presenting a more accurate perspective to the international community.
During the dinner, Prime Minister Hun Manet reassured attendees about Cambodia’s stability and safety for investment and tourism. “In an unrealistic world situation, Cambodia has maintained its economic growth and potential,” he remarked, emphasizing the country’s strategic position bolstered by significant free trade agreements, including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and various bilateral agreements with China and Korea.
Highlighting Cambodia’s strong foundation for investment, Prime Minister Hun Manet pointed out the country’s skilled and youthful workforce, well-versed in foreign languages, and the ongoing development of essential infrastructure, such as deep-water ports and new airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
